Train crash in Gazipur: 4 injured, 7 compartments derailed

This morning, four carriages of a passenger train and three compartments of an oil-laden train derailed at Joydebpur, resulting in injuries to four individuals.

The collision occurred around 11 am when a Dhaka-bound Tangail commuter train collided head-on with a Rangpur-bound oil-laden train in the Choto Dewra area. Abdul Mazid, a member of the Railway Security Forces, reported the incident.

Among the injured is the loco master (driver) of the passengers’ train. They have been transported to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for treatment.

Authorities from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, as well as officials from Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), promptly responded to the scene upon receiving information.

According to Abul Fateh Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur, the accident occurred due to wrong signaling, causing the passengers’ train to enter the opposite line.

A three-member probe committee, led by Additional District Magistrate Matiur Rahman, has been established to investigate the incident.

Train services on the Joydebpur route remain disrupted, with Masud Sarwar, Kamalapur Railway Station Manager, confirming that no trains are currently departing from Dhaka.
