Md. Masud Karim, Additional Police Commissioner of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), emphasised the force’s ongoing efforts to gain the trust of the public.
Speaking at a meeting with students, citizens, and respected individuals at Uttarkhan Thana Bhaban, Karim reassured attendees of the police’s commitment to serving the people. “We are working day and night to ensure that the police can be trusted by the people,” he stated. “Our sincere efforts continue to create a connection with the hearts and minds of the public.”
He highlighted the importance of the police station as a central hub for legal services, noting that every effort is being made to improve its effectiveness for citizens of all backgrounds. Karim further explained that higher authorities are focused on ensuring police stations operate properly, with the primary duty of maintaining law and order through community involvement.
“The police station belongs to you. While police officers may be transferred, the community remains. You must play a key role in maintaining law and order,” he said.
Karim urged young people to continue raising their voices against injustice, stressing that public vigilance is essential to prevent crime from taking root again.
“The recent July-August movement has allowed us the freedom to work fairly. We need unity to bring about positive societal changes,” he said. He also encouraged the public to cooperate with the police by providing information about various crimes, including drug-related activities and extortion. The meeting, chaired by Uttara Division Deputy Police Commissioner Rawnak Jahan, was attended by officials from various ranks within the Uttara Division, political, social, professional, and religious leaders, as well as heads of educational institutions and student movement leaders.
