Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, has emphasized that gender discrimination will have no place in the New Bangladesh following the July Uprising.
Addressing the “Best Self-Reliant Women Award 2025” event in Dhaka on International Women’s Day, Bhuyain assured that women’s participation and presence at all levels of society will be guaranteed. The event was organized by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) at LGED Bhaban.
Bhuyain, who also serves as the Adviser to Youth and Sports, highlighted that excluding women from decision-making and power structures hinders the nation’s progress, particularly since women make up nearly 51% of the population.
He also reflected on the nation’s history, stating, “Just as we gained independence through the joint efforts of men and women, we achieved a new victory in 2024 with significant female participation in the July Uprising.”
However, he expressed concern that some individuals are attempting to undermine women’s security in the post-uprising period. Bhuyain called on law enforcement agencies to take swift and firm action against those who engage in violence against women and children, assuring that exemplary punishment will be meted out to perpetrators.
The adviser congratulated the recipients of the Best Self-Reliant Women Award, stating that their resilience would inspire other women to overcome challenges.
He also urged the relevant officials to prioritize increasing the representation of women in all LGED activities.
The event was also addressed by Md Nizam Uddin, Secretary to the Local Government Division, and chaired by LGED Chief Engineer Md Abdur Rashid Mia.
