Hasan Mahmud matched Shahid Afridi’s record for the most economical bowling in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In a match against Dhaka Capitals, Hasan bowled an outstanding spell of 4 overs, giving just 5 runs and taking 2 wickets, helping his team, Khulna Tigers, win by six wickets and qualify for the BPL playoffs.
While this is not the most economical bowling performance in BPL history, Hasan now shares a unique record with Afridi. Both bowlers completed their 4-over spell with an economy rate of 1.25. Shahid Afridi had a similar performance in 2015, when he took 2 wickets for 5 runs against Barisal Bulls while playing for Sylhet Superstars.
Pacer Nahidul Islam also recorded an impressive performance, taking 3 wickets for 5 runs in 4 overs against Barisal in the 2022 season with Cumilla Victorians. However, Mohammad Shoriful Islam’s great spell of 4 wickets for 5 runs was not included in this record because he bowled just 3.2 overs, not completing his full quota.
The best-ever bowling record for economy in the BPL belongs to left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny. He took 3 wickets without conceding any runs in 2.4 overs during the 2016 season while playing for Rangpur Riders against Khulna Tigers.
