The interim government has assured a BNP delegation that the 13th parliamentary election will take place by December this year.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement after a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus at his residence in Jamuna on Monday evening.
The three-member BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, met with the chief adviser to discuss the country’s current political situation, including the election. Fakhrul shared with reporters that Yunus assured them that preparations are underway to hold the national election by December.
However, Fakhrul firmly stated that the BNP would not accept holding the local body elections before the national elections.
The delegation also included BNP Standing Committee members Salauddin Ahmed and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
Amidst ongoing political unrest, particularly protests following the remarks of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the BNP expressed concerns about the potential delay of the parliamentary elections. The delegation raised these concerns during their meeting with the chief adviser and discussed the electoral roadmap.
On Friday, the BNP held a meeting of its national standing committee to address the country’s political situation, stressing the importance of meeting the chief adviser to resolve the matter.
