The Coastal Development Partnership (CDP) has conducted a climate resilience training program in Ward 32 of Dhaka North City Corporation under its PROCEED project, aimed at strengthening locally-led climate governance.
The training session, held at the CBCB Centre in Mohammadpur, brought together a wide range of stakeholders including NGOs, community-based organisations, educational institutions, religious groups, and local businesses. This collaborative initiative was implemented through a Multi-Actor Partnership (MAP) framework to address the increasing climate vulnerabilities in urban areas.
The PROCEED project—short for “Promoting Gender-sensitive Climate Resilience & Effective Climate Governance through Locally-Led Climate Resilient Development Model”—focuses on building a climate-resilient Bangladesh through inclusive, community-based action.
The training aimed to raise awareness about the challenges of urban climate change and explore strategies to build resilience. Participants gained a foundational understanding of the causes and consequences of climate change, particularly in urban contexts, and discussed the roles different stakeholders can play in fostering resilience at the local level.
Participating organisations included CDP, MOMOTA, Prerona CBO, BRED, Development Wheel, SHELD, and others, reflecting the inclusive and community-driven approach of the initiative.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CDP and the participating organisations. Under this agreement, CDP will provide technical assistance and capacity-building support, while partner organisations will implement project activities in their respective communities.
Proposed activities under the MoU include rooftop gardening, waste and plastic management initiatives, incentives for eco-friendly practices, and climate education programs for students in grades 7–12. The initiative will also form youth and women-led climate clubs, facilitate access to public services, and organise health camps as part of wider climate adaptation efforts.
The training was conducted by senior CDP officials including Executive Director Jahangir Hasan Masum, Senior Program Manager Edward A. Modhu, Gender & Development Manager Shahida Amin Priyanka, Area Coordinator Nazmun Tayyaba Propa, and Resource Mobilization Coordinator Akib Ahsan.
This initiative marks a significant step in promoting grassroots climate resilience in Dhaka’s Ward 32 and sets a model for inclusive, sustainable urban development.
