BNP hopes for ‘minimal consensus’ on state reforms

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed hope that political parties will reach a “minimal consensus” on state reforms through dialogue, paving the way for the timely holding of the national election.

Speaking after a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on Saturday, Alamgir noted that discussions would be held on the reports provided by the reform commissions. He emphasized that political parties would engage in talks with the commission, aiming for a collective agreement.

“Different political parties made various remarks during the discussions,” Alamgir shared, stressing the need for a minimal consensus to ensure the quick conduct of the election based on the agreement.

The meeting, held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, marked the first round of talks between the National Consensus Commission, led by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, and various political parties, including the BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Representatives from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, LDP, Jatiya Party (Kazi Jafar), Nagorik Oikya, Islami Andolan, Khilafat Majlish, Gano Samhati Andolan, Gono Odhhikar Parishad, and Jatiya Nagorik Committee attended the gathering.
