Bangladesh ambassador seeks cooperation for the wellbeing of the Bangladeshi community from mayor of Rome

The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy, Rokebul Haque, met with the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, at the Mayor’s office located on Via del Campidoglio. During their meeting, Ambassador Haque praised the Mayor for his leadership in preserving and enhancing the beauty and charm of the “City of Eternity.”

Ambassador Haque expressed his commitment to working closely with the Rome City Administration to support the social integration and welfare of the Bangladeshi community, which plays an integral role in contributing to Italian society. The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of strengthening the cooperation between city authorities in both Bangladesh and Italy.

One of the key points raised by the Ambassador was the longstanding demand for the establishment of a Muslim cemetery, which he urged the Mayor to prioritize in order to address the needs of the Muslim communities, especially those of Bangladeshi descent.

The Mayor of Rome acknowledged and praised the hard work, dedication, and integration efforts of the Bangladeshi community into Roman society. He also fondly recalled his long-standing association with the Honorable Chief Adviser of Bangladesh and Nobel Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus. Mayor Gualtieri mentioned Professor Yunus’s visit to Rome for discussions on Expo 2030 and the Second World Meeting on Human Fraternity, which was organized last year by the Fratelli Tutti Foundation alongside New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

In conclusion, Mayor Roberto Gualtieri assured Ambassador Haque of his full support, stating that his office would continue to work towards ensuring better lives, safe and secure workplaces, and fair wages for Bangladeshi workers living in Rome.
