Two cargo LNGs to be imported from Switzerland and Singapore for Tk1,496 Cr

The Bangladesh government has decided to import two cargo LNGs (liquefied natural gas) to meet the country’s energy demand. The total cost of importing these LNGs from the spot market will be Tk1,496.37 crore.

The decision was made after a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. The proposal for the LNG import was submitted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and approved during the meeting.

The first cargo of LNG will be imported from Switzerland’s Total Energy Gas and Power Limited, costing Tk754.42 crore for 33.6 million MMBTU of LNG. The price per MMBTU will be $15.73. This cargo is expected to arrive between March 9-10.

The second cargo will be imported from Singapore’s Gunvor Singapore Private Limited, costing Tk742 crore for 33.6 million MMBTU of LNG. The price per MMBTU will be $15.47.

Earlier, on February 25, the government also approved the purchase of another LNG cargo from Switzerland at a cost of Tk788 crore.
