Resignation demand for principal of Khilgaon Model College

Students of Khilgaon Model College have staged a protest demanding the resignation of their principal, Prof Imam Jafor.

The protest was held on Sunday (March 2) at the college campus.

The students, under banners labeled “Fascism’s accomplice, the spirit of Awami,” called for the resignation of the principal.

The protestors marched around the college, chanting slogans against the principal.

They then proceeded to the Khilgaon intersection and various surrounding areas before returning to the college to hold a protest and a human chain.

The students stated that the principal, who is the Vice President of the Krishak League, was appointed during the rule of a fascist government.

The principal celebrated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s birthday by cutting a cake upon joining the college. Since then, he has been prioritising party affiliations.

Since August 5, several teachers who had gained monopolistic power during the fascist era have continued their influence in the college. They allege that the principal continues to run the college with these fascist allies, providing them with support in various ways.

The students have claimed that under the principal’s patronage, the quality of education and governance at the college has deteriorated, leading them to unite and express their demands.

The students also highlighted a lack of continuity and transparency in the principal’s actions, which has disrupted the college’s academic environment.

Additionally, accusations have been made that the principal has deliberately promoted pro-Awami League teachers to high positions while discriminating against other teachers, causing frustration among the students.

Further allegations include that the principal has been working with former local councilor Anis’s brother, who is absconding, and a teacher named Arif, who has been exerting dominance in the college. The principal has allegedly been giving priority to them in various college committees, helping them maintain their influence in the institution.

The students believe that the principal is an ally of fascism and that the college cannot be run impartially under his leadership. They vowed to continue their protest and fight for quality education and a healthy, safe learning environment for all.
