Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, emphasised that relations between Bangladesh and India should be based on equality, dignity, and mutual respect. While addressing a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday, Alam acknowledged the strengthening of bilateral ties, particularly highlighting a significant increase in trade between the two countries since the interim government took office.
He noted that while the relationship has grown notably, there are still ongoing issues related to visa matters, but expressed hope for a swift resolution to these challenges.
Alam reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening its relationship with India, provided it is built on fairness, equality, and respect for both nations.
He also pointed to a troubling period after the fall of the Awami League government during the July-August upsurge, claiming that India engaged in spreading misinformation against Bangladesh through its media outlets. Alam further accused India of harboring deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and other senior Awami League leaders, suggesting that India is allegedly attempting to destabilize Bangladesh by creating tensions, including through attacks on religious minorities.
