Reforms can’t be done without political stability: Tarique

Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP, stated on Sunday that implementing reform proposals in Bangladesh is impossible without political stability. He emphasised the need for the government to conduct the next parliamentary election as soon as possible to prevent the country from heading toward collapse.

While criticising the interim government, Tarique expressed concerns that some officials seemed to be deviating from the primary goal of holding national elections. He noted that while there may be debates on which election should come first, the country’s situation requires a reality check due to ongoing disturbances.

Speaking virtually at a workshop organised by the Dhaka Bar unit of the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, Tarique highlighted the BNP’s 31-point reform proposal. He remarked that the party presented this charter when others were too hesitant to do so. He also pointed out that many of those who now advocate for reforms were previously unwilling to support such initiatives.

Tarique further stated that the interim government’s main responsibility is to align with the people’s decisions and assist in facilitating the country’s political processes.
