Palli Bidyut Samity employees to March to Dhaka Wednesday with 7-point demand

Employees of the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) are set to stage a “March to Dhaka” on Wednesday to press home a seven-point charter of demands, while ensuring that electricity services remain uninterrupted during the demonstration.
The protest is being organised by the Bangladesh Palli Bidyut Association (BPBA), the representative body of PBS employees working under the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB). The announcement was made via a press release issued by the BPBA on Tuesday night.
Key demands include the removal of the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Board, implementation of unified service rules for both REB and PBS staff, reinstatement of employees who were previously dismissed, and withdrawal of what the association describes as “false and baseless” legal cases filed against its members.
In a joint statement signed by four BPBA leaders, the association expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress on long-standing service-related issues, despite continuous discussions with government authorities. They noted that while a reform committee was previously established to address these concerns, its recommendations have yet to be implemented.
The statement further highlighted that thousands of employees are currently serving under 80 PBSs across the country, playing a crucial role in maintaining rural electrification and power distribution.
The BPBA emphasised that the protest is peaceful and service-oriented, aimed at drawing attention to unresolved grievances without disrupting electricity supply to rural communities.
