Jewellery shops across Bangladesh shut indefinitely over BAJUS leader’s arrest

Jewellery businesses across Bangladesh have been shut down indefinitely in protest against the arrest of Md Reponul Hasan, Vice President of the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS), which the association claims was made in a “false case.”
In a statement issued late Wednesday night, BAJUS announced that all jewellery shops and related business establishments nationwide will remain closed until further notice, demanding Reponul’s immediate release.
The statement was jointly signed by BAJUS Acting President Gulzar Ahmed, General Secretary Badal Chandra Rai, and other senior leaders of the organisation.

Earlier in the evening, around 7:30 PM, law enforcement personnel arrested Md Reponul from his business premises in Tatibazar, one of Dhaka’s prominent jewellery hubs.
BAJUS has condemned the arrest, calling it unjust and politically motivated, and warned that the indefinite shutdown will continue unless their demands are met.
