Japan has pledged over $1.063 billion in financial assistance to Bangladesh, aimed at supporting the country’s economic reforms, infrastructure development, and education sector. The announcement came on Friday following the formal exchange of notes between the two countries.
As part of the package, Japan will provide $418 million in the form of a Development Policy Loan to help Bangladesh implement key economic reforms and strengthen its resilience to climate change. In addition, Tokyo will extend $641 million for upgrading the Joydevpur–Ishwardi railway line into a dual-gauge double track, which is expected to significantly enhance the country’s railway connectivity and efficiency. Furthermore, Japan will provide $4.2 million in grants to support scholarships for Bangladeshi students.
This commitment underscores Japan’s continued partnership with Bangladesh and its role in supporting the country’s development goals.
