The interim government has announced plans to appoint 5,493 doctors through the Public Service Commission (PSC) to improve healthcare services across the country, including in the capital.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the Environment, Forests, and Climate Change Adviser, provided this update during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy following a meeting of the interim government’s advisory council on Tuesday.
Currently, the recruitment process for 3,493 doctors is underway through the PSC. Additionally, the government has decided to hire 2,000 more doctors to address healthcare gaps in rural areas.
Rizwana emphasized that the goal is to improve healthcare accessibility for underserved rural communities. “The primary objective of this initiative is to make healthcare services and doctors more accessible at the grassroots level,” she explained.
She also mentioned that Saudi company Aramco has agreed to supply LNG to Bangladesh at a price lower than the usual market rate.
In a review of the interim government’s actions, Rizwana noted that 92 out of 135 decisions made, or about 68%, have already been implemented.
The meeting also decided to rename two institutions: the Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust Act (Amendment) Ordinance and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheatre Act (Amendment) Ordinance. Furthermore, the advisory council agreed to establish global standards for regulating the saturated fat content in food products.
