Govt committed to advancing telecom and IT with gender equality: CA

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed the interim government’s dedication to developing the country’s telecommunication and information technology (IT) sectors, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and inclusive digital growth.
In a message marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, to be observed on May 17, Prof Yunus welcomed this year’s theme, “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation”, calling it highly relevant for building a discrimination-free, modern society.
He stressed that equal participation of both men and women in the digital transformation process is vital for national development. “Our government is committed to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all in the digital sector, in line with the spirit of the historic July mass uprising,” he said.
Highlighting key initiatives, the Chief Adviser mentioned that services are being expanded through union-level information and service centers. Special programs such as ‘She-STEM’ training for female students and freelancing training for women entrepreneurs are also underway.
Prof Yunus also announced a major step forward: Bangladesh will soon be connected to a satellite-based high-speed internet network, ensuring reliable service even in the country’s most remote areas.
He concluded by urging collective efforts to provide world-class telecom and IT services for the people of Bangladesh.
