Ecnec approves 13 projects worth Tk12,532cr, including two for gas extraction

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved 13 projects worth a total of Tk12,532 crore. The approval includes two major projects focused on gas extraction.

The approval come from the Ecnec meeting held Sunday at the NEC conference room in Dhaka, was chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.

Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud shared the details after the meeting.

Of the 13 projects, nine are new, with a total cost of Tk12,071.28 crore, and four are amended projects, with an additional Tk508 crore, bringing their total cost to Tk7,341.3 crore.

One key project is the “Excavation of 4 Appraisal-cum-Development Wells in Titas and Kamta Fields.” This project will be carried out by Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) at a cost of Tk1,255 crore. The government will contribute Tk872 crore, while Bapex will provide Tk382 crore. The project will run from January 2025 to September 2027.

Another major project is the “3-D Seismic Survey Project” in Habiganj, Bakhrabad, and Meghna Fields. This project will cost Tk454 crore, with the government providing Tk312 crore and Sylhet Gas Fields contributing Tk141 crore. It will be completed between January 2025 and June 2027.

Other approved projects include: Chattogram Metropolitan North Kattali Catchment Sanitation Project, Mongla Port Facilities Expansion and Development Project, Improved Seed Production for paddy, wheat, and maize, Modernisation of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation’s (BADC) seed production systems, Food Safety Testing Capacity Development Project, Sylhet-12 Well Drilling Project, Ghorashal Fourth Unit Re-powering Project, Power Distribution System Development for Chattogram Zone, Strengthening Migration Management and Reintegration Services, Scenic Primary Schools Development in Dhaka Metropolis and Purbachal, Digital Labs for Educational Institutions, Ecnec also approved an extension for the “Narayanganj City Corporation’s Solid Waste Management Project,” marking its fourth extension.

Additionally, four proposals were presented for future appraisal. These include projects to strengthen the Department of Livestock Services, conserve aquatic ecosystems, develop char settlements, and preserve Dhaka Central Jail.
