Biman flight lands safely in Dhaka after losing rear wheel

A Dhaka-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight made a safe emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) this afternoon after losing a rear landing gear wheel shortly after takeoff from Cox’s Bazar.
The flight, BG 436, operated by a Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft, departed Cox’s Bazar Airport at 1:20 pm with 71 passengers on board. Minutes into the flight, the pilot reported a technical malfunction to Dhaka Air Traffic Control, indicating that a wheel from the rear landing gear had detached midair.
Following the emergency declaration, HSIA authorities swiftly activated standard emergency procedures. Fire and rescue teams were deployed to prepare for a safe landing.
The aircraft touched down safely at 2:17 pm, and all passengers disembarked unharmed, confirmed Biman’s General Manager (Public Relations) ABM Roushan Kabir.
Biman officials noted that the Dash 8-400 is designed to safely land even with a missing rear wheel. “Our engineers have started a detailed inspection to determine the cause of the malfunction,” Kabir added.
He also praised the flight crew for their professionalism and calm handling of the situation, which ensured passenger safety.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has been informed and will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
