Bangladesh starts T20 World Cup preparations with Zimbabwe series

Bangladesh’s cricket captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, expressed the team’s focus on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup as they gear up to face Zimbabwe in a five-match Twenty20 International series beginning at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium today. Following the series conclusion on May 12, Bangladesh will head to the USA for a three-match T20I series against the hosts starting May 15, as part of their preparation for the global event kicking off on June 1. Shanto emphasized the importance of winning the series as the team’s primary goal while also considering it as a platform for their T20 World Cup readiness.

Despite Zimbabwe’s absence from this year’s T20 World Cup due to losses against Namibia and Uganda in the qualifiers, Bangladesh is anticipated to have an advantage in the series, with statistics favoring them. However, Shanto maintained that in T20 cricket, there are no big or small teams, citing Zimbabwe’s recent victory over Sri Lanka as evidence of their potential.

Zimbabwe’s captain, Sikandar Raza, lamented their failure to qualify for the pinnacle event but remains optimistic about their performance in the series against Bangladesh. Raza emphasized the importance of cherishing the positive memories created as a team, despite the setbacks faced, highlighting the resilience of the Zimbabwean cricket team.
