Md Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, has accused the Awami League of accepting India’s influence to maintain power at the cost of Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
“Awami League chose to align itself with India to cling to power, prioritizing it over the nation, its people, and its independence,” Sarjis claimed.
He also criticized India for providing refuge to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whom he referred to as a “murderer,” saying India’s actions go against the sentiments of the Bangladeshi people. “She should be returned to Bangladesh for trial,” Sarjis stated during a program in Chattogram on Saturday.
Sarjis further criticized the Awami League for allegedly allowing India to dominate Bangladesh’s political affairs during the past 16 years, labeling Sheikh Hasina a “bloodthirsty dictator.” He warned that Bangladesh’s relationship with India may not last if the latter continues to assert a hegemonic stance toward Bangladesh. The program was organized by Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
