BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia arrived at her Gulshan residence, Firoza, on Tuesday after nearly four months of advanced medical treatment in London. She was accompanied by her two daughters-in-law — Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and Syeda Shamila Rahman, wife of the late Arafat Rahman Koko.
A Qatari royal air ambulance carrying Khaleda and her entourage touched down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:42 am. She departed the airport at around 11:15 am, seated in the front of a secured vehicle, with Zubaida and Shamila in the rear seats.
The motorcade reached her Gulshan residence at approximately 1:25 pm amid heavy security.
A jubilant crowd of BNP leaders, activists, and supporters gathered in front of her residence, waving party and national flags, chanting slogans, and holding banners and festoons bearing the images of party founder Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman. The area was charged with emotion and celebration as the long-anticipated homecoming took place.
BNP volunteers managed crowd control and support logistics alongside members of law enforcement, who maintained a high-security presence around the area.
Dr Zubaida Rahman’s return marked the end of her 17-year stay in London, making the occasion even more significant for party supporters.
The BNP camp sees this moment as a symbolic resurgence of its leadership, as Khaleda Zia resumes her presence in Dhaka and anticipation builds over the expected return of Tarique Rahman to lead the next phase of the party’s pro-democracy movement.
