Mirza Fakhrul stresses need for political unity amid national instability

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasised the urgent need for political unity, highlighting the current instability in the country.

Speaking at a memorial meeting in honor of late BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Kakrail on Sunday, Fakhrul said, “We are making some clear issues unclear. The words ‘reform’ and ‘elections’ are being repeatedly discussed. It is now the collective responsibility of all political parties and groups to resolve these issues through patient and constructive dialogue.”

He reiterated BNP’s commitment to a united political approach, noting that the party has already submitted its proposals to the National Consensus Commission. “We believe that an inclusive and acceptable solution will emerge through discussions. A fair election will soon bring true representation of the people,” he added.

Fakhrul urged party leaders and activists to remain alert, stating that the struggle for democracy is far from over. “We still don’t have a parliament truly elected by the people. Therefore, we must proceed with caution, strength, and awareness. Strengthening the party is essential,” he said.

Paying tribute to Abdullah Al Noman, Fakhrul praised his lifelong dedication to building a democratic Bangladesh. “Even in the most challenging times, Noman was able to lead movements and unite people. His vision and leadership remain a source of inspiration,” he said.

The discussion was chaired by Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain and moderated by Publicity and Publication Secretary Manjurul Islam Manjur. BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, Vice Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan, leaders Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, and Sayeed Al Noman—son of the late Abdullah Al Noman—were also present at the event.
