Faiz Ahmad requests postponement of ‘March for Gaza’ by one week

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the ICT Division, has requested that the ‘March for Gaza’ protest be postponed by one week.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 9, Faiz Ahmad explained the reason behind his request. He mentioned that the main events of the Bangladesh Investment Summit are scheduled to begin on the morning of April 9, with over 600 direct investors from nearly 50 countries already in Bangladesh. In addition to core activities on April 9 and 10, the investors will be visiting various companies, Export Processing Zones (EPZs), Hi-Tech Parks, and startups on April 11, 12, and 13.

Regarding the March for Gaza, Faiz Ahmad acknowledged the emotional significance of the event, which is planned for April 12 in protest of Israeli military actions in Palestine. He stated, “The issue of Palestine holds a deeply emotional place in our hearts, and I believe millions of people will participate in this march. We respect the noble purpose of this protest.”

However, Faiz Ahmad emphasised the need to consider the timing of the march, as the event’s audience is largely influenced by international politics, not Bangladesh’s internal economy. He requested the organisers to reschedule the march to the following week, noting that the issue of Palestine will not lose its significance in just a week.

He further added, “The Chief Adviser has already condemned Israeli brutality, and protesting injustice is essential. However, it is also important to support the country’s startup ecosystem, business environment, and investment climate.” He concluded by wishing success for both the Palestine cause and the upcoming International Investment Summit 2025.
