
To ensure the country’s energy security, the government has decided to import two cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the spot market, one from Singapore and one from the United Kingdom. The total cost for the import will be Tk 1,366.87 crore.
The approval for importing LNG from Singapore’s Gunvor Singapore Private Limited and the UK’s Total Energies Gas and Power Limited was given by the advisory council committee on government purchase.
The approval was granted in the advisory council committee on government purchase meeting chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on Thursday.
According to sources, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the committee approved the import of LNG through an international quotation process under the Public Procurement Rules, 2008, for a spot market delivery expected between April 14-15, 2025.
The total cost for the LNG cargo from Gunvor Singapore Private Limited will be Tk 675.28 crore, with the price set at $14.08 per MMBTU.
The cargo from Total Energies Gas and Power Limited in the UK will cost Tk 691.59 crore, with the price set at $14.57 per MMBTU.
